When it comes to blogging, and I will safely assume for writing as well, the key is not to write more. Yes, you can write till your eyes bleed, but if you don’t have the eyeballs on the things you’ve written, it is pretty much meaningless.

The effect of writing, when nobody is “watching” are similar to the tree falling down in the forest. It might have happened, but nobody knows about it. If you are a aspiring writer, you need to get your work, despite its size, to as many eye balls as possible. Perhaps those eye balls are your publishers, or they might be audience of your blog. But eyeballs are equally important as the content that you create, if not even more.
